Carbix: what we shipped

What we shipped, what stayed open, and what we learned from our first project.

Carbix: what we shipped

The first Carbix product was an open-source, open-hardware energy monitor for up to 15 circuits. It measured voltage, power, energy, VA, and power factor at five-second resolution, served data locally, and could upload to InfluxDB, Emoncms, or Grafana.

It shipped on Amazon US. The hardware, firmware, and documentation stayed open.

The more important work was the NILM layer: learning the electrical signature of appliances so a single measurement point could tell what was running. That work led to a partnership with a circuit breaker manufacturer to embed recognition directly into smart breakers.

The Amazon listing and GitHub repository remain available as the record of our first project.
